May 12 Notice on UC Emails
From: Adam Stone
Subject: Email from UC Related to the Data Breach Arriving Soon
Colleagues,
Over the next few days, UC will be sending individual emails to a wide section of the UC community with additional information about the UC breach. The email may come from an unfamiliar address like “no-reply@marketing.cisd.com,” but it will be a legitimate communication. To validate this email, you can verify that the entire text of the email except for your customized Experian activation code is available at https://ucnet.universityofcalifornia.edu/data-security/accellion-notice.html You can also view the text of this email at https://ucincident.lbl.gov
The Lab does not know who these emails are being sent to, but it’s important to understand that receiving or not receiving this email is NOT an indication that you were or were not within the scope of the UC incident. UC and its partners have not yet completed their reviews of all the data that may have been compromised. The emails being sent now are being sent to wide sections of the community that are potentially impacted.
If you have not yet done so, now is an excellent time to sign up for the UC-provided Experian credit monitoring services and place fraud alerts on your credit reports. You can get more information about recommended actions on the websites linked below. The email and the link above also contain information on how to contact the new dedicated UC call center, which can answer your questions about identity protection.
