PLEASE READ: Update for UC Community (including Lab Employees) about Accellion Cyber Attack and What You Should Do to Protect Yourself

Dear colleagues,

Attached is a message from the University of California regarding a significant data breach of critical employee financial and personal information. Please read the attached PDF for details.

We, like you, are concerned about any breach of your critical financial and personal information. This is a developing situation, and UC has pledged to keep us all informed as its investigation continues.

This data breach did not occur in our Lab systems; however, information about Lab community members is maintained in UC systems. We do not know the extent of the information obtained, but we do know that for employees, it includes, at a minimum, names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, and bank account information.

It will take time for UC and law enforcement agencies to understand the extent of this breach and how much of our employee information was compromised. We strongly recommend that you take advantage of the protection services that are offered and follow the additional advice provided by UC to protect your personal and financial information as outlined in the attached PDF.

As new information becomes available, we will share it with you. Please know that despite this incident, UC and the Lab take your privacy seriously, and we have confidence that UC will respond effectively and provide you with the tools you need to protect yourself.
